We take pride in our level of detail, customer service, and commitment to quality our clients have come to expect. We believe in bringing approachable, creative design to each event and in doing so our flowers are sure to spark joy and create sweet memories. Whatever the vision, whether highly detailed or just a vague concept, we will work with you to capture the essence of your event or wedding. We listen to your stories, your grand plans, dreams and questions to guide the design process.  This makes each occasion as unique as you. I truly look forward to working with you on your event or wedding!

Founder and Creative Director, Shannon LaVoie (shown left) has always loved flowers but it was while designing the bouquets and arrangements for her own wedding that she discovered her passion for floral design. A Bay Area native with a background in biology and art/sculpture, floral design allows Shannon to bring together her love of art and nature. Rare Sparrow launched in 2010 as a hobby business while Shannon worked full-time in tech; At the start of 2016, Shannon left the tech world to concentrate on Rare Sparrow full-time.

Sustainability and Charity: We take great consideration into how our processes effect our surrounding environment, composting all plant waste and trimmings, recycling all packaging, repurposing and reusing vases and supplies and using seasonal American grown materials whenever possible (I have to admit I love roses (many grown internationally) and you'll see a lot of them in my work). We're always looking for ways to reduce our impact and make our business more sustainable and minimize waste.  This year we've committed to reducing our use of floral foam and finding organizations to donate flowers after events. Its a work in progress!  We also give back to local organizations, donating a percentage of our profits to non-profit organizations doing important work for the environment, animals and underrepresented communities. Here are some of the organizations we've donated to: ACLU, NRDC, Nature Conservancy Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, SFSPCA, Farm Sanctuary, SEO Scholars, Life Learning Academy, WIRES and more.
